So given that this comm sort of burst into life in a flurry of...well mostly podfic actually...at the turn of the year, and I've since persuaded doyle to pass me the mantle of 'looking after the comm' duties. I thought I'd better get round to making a post asking if the membership had any particular requirements or desires from the comm?

Would you like to keep the comm purely fanworks, or would you like to post meta/character arc discussion posts?

Would monthly character love posts be good? Either general free for alls with different threads for different characters, or focusing on one companion a month in chronological/alphabetical/completely arbitrary order?

Perhaps a game of drabble tag or comment fic?

The subtitle of the comm is 'companions and allies' obviously this includes the one off companions from the specials along with recurring folks like the Brig and Benton from the UNIT days and Jackie Tyler and Jake Simmons from the New Series. But what about non recurring characters? Only those who had a vital role in saving the day? Or anyone so long as they were on our heroes' side?

Something else I haven't thought of?

Oh, and my favorite companions are Jo, Leela, the Romanas, Tegan, Nyssa and River Song.

Hello. doyle previously gave me permission to track and include this comm's entries in gallifrey_times. Is that permission still extended or would you prefer to withdraw it?

Thinking on this, I think that almost every one of the non-recurring, companion-like characters (i.e. not on the side of evil like Mr. Fibuli) that actually stick in the mind all played some vital role in saving the day. Maybe not, though; it just seems so to me on reflection.

I'm inclined to agree, I think most of the minor characters that aren't working against our heroes, and are likely to make people want to write about them are an important part of the day being saved. I'm just conscious that I love minor characters in the whoniverse so I might be biased, and wondered if there was a general feeling on the subject.

Which causes me to ask: Is reposting of previously-written fic all right here? I don't have as much time to write as I used to, but I did do one story with Commander Lytton and Jack Harkness a while back that might fit in well here and help break the podfic streak. Not that there anything wrong with podfic, but variation is a wonderful thing. Let me know if it's okay to put up and I will.

Yes, certainly, post away :) I look forward to reading it! Yeah, I'm rather fond of podfic too but I'd like to encourage a variety of types of fanwork (fic! vids! picspams! podfics! meta! things I've forgotten about!) in the comm, so have at it! :D

I think that meta and discussion as well as fanworks would be excellent, as would be games of comment fic. I don't know what drabble tag is, so I can't say if I'd like it or not.

Favorite companions from Classic Who: Sarah Jane Smith, Romana I, Leela, Tegan Jovanka, Nyssa of Traken, Turlough and the Brigadier.

Favorite companions from New Who: Donna Noble, Amy Pond and Rory Williams. (Martha Jones gets an honorable mention for saving the world by walking across it and telling a story, but I feel that she was sadly underutilized as a character.)

Excellent, another vote for meta/discussion. Drabble tag is pretty similar to comment fic games, basically someone posts a drabble/ficlet in a comment of the drabble tag post along with three prompts, other's reply with drabbles/ficlets based on said prompts and leave their own, and so on until you break the comments basically. The idea of course is to write drabbles but generally as long as it fits in a comment box its good to go.

I'm all for both fanworks and meta/discussion, and I think love posts are an excellent idea.

Anyway, my favourites are Ben & Polly, Jamie, Victoria, Zoe (in other words, all of Two's companions, basically), Jo, Sarah Jane, Leela, Ace, Donna, River and Rory.
